McDonnell's Traditional Irish Music Slow Session Monday nights 7:30 - 11:00pm
The Corkman Irish Pub
Carlton
Slow Sessions have moved To Monday Nights at The Corkman Irish Pub
We have come to an agreement with the owner of The Corkman Irish Pub
in Carlton to hold our sessions in the Pub for a ~ 2-3 month trial period
starting on Monday 18 February 2013. If all goes well we can schedule our
sessions for a longer run. Yes, we will have to change our session night to
Mondays to fit into the other events currently scheduled at the pub.
Unfortunately, this may make it difficult for some players to attend, but we
have to be flexible because there are very few venues left in Melbourne that
suit our needs that would are willing to host our sessions. Fortunately, it
isn't too hard to get to the Corkman and there is parking in the surrounding
area. Some of you are aware that Paddy Fitzgerald runs a very successful
session at The Corkman on Thursday nights. We will be using one of the nearby
dinning rooms rather than the area that Paddy holds his session.
Because it is important for the long-term success of our sessions that as many of you
as possible attend our sessions in February and March to demonstrate that we
will have a positive impact on the Pub. Over the years while looking for new
venues the 1st comment I commonly hear is 'We don't want musicians filling the
pub and sitting around drinking water." For sure we don't need folks to only
have alcoholic drinks, the point is we need to support the Pub because they
have to pay the bills and it helps if we buy meals and drinks when we can. From
personal experience I can tell you that the meals at the Pub are very good. It
is a very popular with Melbourne Uni staff and students.
Finally, we would like to thank everyone who offered to help find a new venue and those
who sent kind words of support for our efforts to keep our slow sessions running.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our first sessions at The Corkman on Monday 18 February.
