Question:
Could someone kindly explain to me the difference between jigs and reels in plain English? I've checked on Wikipedia and youtube and while helpful, it's sometimes better to learn from having a good natter with people. Thanks. Elize
Jigs are in 2 In music terms 6 quavers
Reels are in 4. 4 crotchets.  Linda
MM:   Reels go Invercargill, Invercargill. Jigs go Wanaka, Wanaka.
Jigs go Wellington, Wellington and reels go Invercargill, Invercargill - Francie
A jig is like saying ‘bumblebee bumblebee’ and a reel is like saying ‘caterpillar caterpillar’.  AM
Lol but a fast moving caterpillar - Helen  : )
Jigs go pineapple, pineapple while reels go watermelon, watermelon.pineapple, pineapple while reels go watermelon, watermelon. - Anna
Or jigs could go "Violin, Violin, Violin" and reels could go "Concertina, Concertina, Concertina" but you get the general idea, eh - Francie
