155 Highland Games Association and Celtic Festival
May 19, 20 and 21, 2018 The Victoria Highland Games Association had its first Scottish gathering at MacDonald Park. On that 1938 day, over 2000 spectators and competitors saw the Honourable T.D. Pattullo, Premier of British Columbia, perform the official opening with the Honourable James A. Farley, Postmaster-General of the United States of America. During the war years of 1939 to 1945, the young Victoria Highland Games Association continued its annual highland gatherings with proceeds donated to the Scottish war effort. http://victoriahighlandgames.com/ |

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Scottish Association will host the 2018 Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Utah State Fairpark, 155 N. 1000 West.
The three-day event feature piping competitions, dancing competitions and heavy athletics and musical entertainment.
Festival hours are Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring a Tattoo — Scottish drum band pipe band performances — at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with opening ceremonies at noon and performances by Molly’s Revenge and Wicked Tinkers at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with closing ceremonies at 3 p.m.

The Basel Tattoo is a military music event that attracts only the very best bands from across the globe and thus covers all music genres, from march to rock, folk to classical music. We strive not only to show the diversity of top international bands, but also to produce a show filled with musical highlights. Breathtaking choreographies, beautiful dancers and dramatic show elements play an important role in the overall experience of the spectators. The Basel Tattoo falls under the patronage of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). The Basel Tattoo is presented annually at the historical barracks in the heart of Basel, on the banks of the Rhine. It is recognised internationally as the second largest Tattoo in the world after the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and has, over the past eleven years, hosted over 1 million spectators Situated in the centre of Europe, our spectators hail not only from Switzerland but also from many other countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. We therefore provide a unique world stage on which bands can represent their countries. Each Basel Tattoo show lasts about two hours, opening with a fanfare and ending with a spectacular finale, in which all bands line up in the arena to give the audience one last memory of the Basel Tattoo. This family-friendly festival is an authentic experience, blending cultural experiences from Cape Breton and Ireland, as well as showcasing local fares and attractions to guests of all ages. There will be workshops geared towards teaching children and adults alike about fiddling, cultural practices, and other exciting lessons set-up to run throughout the day. The workshops will be run by Natalie and Donnell, as well as other performing acts from Cape Breton, Ireland, and all over Canada.
Children under 16 years of age are FREE entry.
