IThe 2018 Le Cheile Festival
line up includes Kíla, John Spillane, Morrissey & Marshall,Rhythm & Sticks and lots more. We're taking a slightly different direction this year... For the past 20 years we've been wrapped up in the comfort of our traditional home of Oldcastle, but now that we're turning 21 we thought we'd just take a little peek out of the nest and see what the world looks like on the outside... but not too far. For 2018 we're going to take a short hop up the road to Ballinlough, to an intimate, purpose built venue that will easily bring us back to our manic youth... surrounded by open space where we can stage all sorts of Le Cheile entertainment. We've lots more to tell you over the coming weeks... but in the meantime - Some of the more important questions.. "Will there be transport to and from the festival ? " - Yes absolutely ! "Will there be a family day ? Arts, drama, kids entertainment ?" ... Yes of course, full details will be posted here when we have everything rubber stamped. "Are tickets on sale yet ?" - Yes, at www.LeCheile.Com and in the next few days they'll also be available at the Halfway House. Keep an open eye on this page, we'll be posting more details very shortly... The Le Cheile Crew |

Armagh’s international festival celebrating the music of all kinds of bagpipes marks its 25th anniversary this November, making it the longest-running event of its kind anywhere in the world.
Armagh Pipers Club, the traditional music educational charity that created the William Kennedy Piping Festival in 1994, has announced details of the line-up for the 25th edition. The 2018 Festival, running from the 15th to 18th November, features many of the Armagh audience’s favourite performers from over the years, as well as a few new faces. 2018 is coincidentally the 250th anniversary of the birth of William Kennedy, the blind master |
pipemaker after whom the Festival is named.
This year the Festival has guest musicians from all over Europe and North America, as well as the cream of the crop from much closer to home in Scotland and Ireland. The Club is especially delighted to host a special one-off reunion performance from two legends of Irish music – Paddy Keenan and Paddy Glackin. Both former members of the Bothy Band, they recorded a seminal album, Doublin, in 1979 which became one of the most influential Irish traditional music albums. Other highlights include a return from globetrotting Lúnasa, who have just released their latest album Cas. Festival favourites Ulaid will perform with Armagh’s singing legend Ríoghnach Connolly; |
while Gàidhlig-language supergroup Dàimh will also be making another highly anticipated foray across the Straits of Moyle.
The Festival again features a Piping Academy, with a stellar line-up of tutors including Seán Óg Potts, Mick O’Brien, Seán McKeon, Louise Mulcahy and Síle Friel. There is also a full range of workshops in all instruments, plus sessions, lectures, performances for children, a special ‘Day of Song’, and much more. Full details of the 2018 Festival are available from www.wkpf.org or email: [email protected]. |
