SETS IN LEUVEN
May 17/18/19 2019 Set dancing weekend in Belgium at the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe A set dancing and music weekend with céilithe and workshops will take place at the historic Irish College in Leuven, Belgium on May 17, 18 and 19 2019. Accommodation possible on site. There will be sets and steps workshops with Mairéad Casey (Longford, Ireland) and music workshops with Gerry Murray (Monaghan, Ireland). The Flight of the Earls Ceili Band will be playing their mighty tunes for the céilithe. Although the Flight of the Earls may be seen as the end of the old Gaelic order in Ireland, the time they spent safe and welcome in Leuven in 1607 is something we continue to commemorate to this day. We look forward to welcoming you here to be part of that commemoration. |

Fiddlin School with Gregor Borland
Casa Rotja, situated in the Albaida valley at the foot of the Sierra Grossa, was
originally built as a 17th Century farm, remodelled in 1889 and again in 2002.
It consists of 2 houses and the original large bodega, where the fiddle lessons
are generally given. It is noted for its fabulous acoustics!

Nantes Scottish Fiddle Workshop

It turns out that Alasdair and Natalie are passing in Brittany early June and they will be present in nantes on Tuesday 12 June 2018 for our greatest pleasure!
Don't miss it!
On the evening program:
- 19 am: 1 h30 of workshop with Natalie and alasdair. (see if we have any interested violoncellistes to separate the group in 2.)
- 20 pm: Picnic Break (I'll ask everyone to bring a little something to share)
- 21: 45 mins in concert.
- and finally, Scottish session in their company :)
Participation in the evening, "workshop included" is 30 euros / person.
As usual, to take advantage of the workshop, we will limit the number to 15 musicians.
For people wishing to come only to the concert and the session (for very simple reasons, like " I don't have time to arrive before " or " I don't play a rope instrument to attend the workshop " :)) Participation of € 10 will be requested.
I'm launching the inscriptions today because I already have people moving in.

There are many different fiddle styles found throughout the Nordic region.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc represent 4 of these and are very knowledgeable about their respective tradition and styles.
Olav L. Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland Islands) have been touring as “The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc" since 2009 and have taken their unique brand of music to many parts of the globe.
Many of the people they have met at their concerts and on their travels have asked where they can learn the music and learn about their respective traditions and styles and have asked whether they have thought about holding a course where people can come and learn from them direct.
So: Welcome to the first Nordic Fiddlers Bloc fiddle camp!
The first edition of the fiddle camp will be held in Olavs home town of Røros, Norway from the 16th - 19th of August.
The fiddle camp will offer an intensive daily timetable of four instrumental lessons with Olav, Anders and Kevin as well as other activities to be announced.
Olav will also offer a few shorter workshops with the Hardanger fiddle.
There will also be a concert with the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, jam sessions every night, an excursion to Røros and a guided tour in the copper mines!
The camp will have space for 45 people so it is recommended that people sign up quick to avoid disappointment!

- Accommodation. There are 48 beds at the camp, all in 4-bed rooms.
- Workshops with Kevin, Anders and Olav. The workshops will be aimed at 3 different levels: lower intermediate, higher intermediate and advanced. The learning will be done by ear.
A concert with The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc.
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We´ll have our own chef making all meals at the camp. There will also be coffee, tea etc. included.
On Saturday we´ll take a trip to the center of Røros. Saturday night dinner will be served at the historic Kaffestuggu, also included.
