The City of Rotorua Highland Pipe Band
started in the 1950's and became incorporated in 1953. Since then the Band has been an important part of the Rotorua Community, participating in events such as ANZAC day and the all important Santa Parade. Depending on the numbers of Band membership, we have have competed at the National Championships on many occasions winning Grade 4 in the year 2000. We currently hold 4th place ( 3rd equal by points) following the 2014 Championships in Tauranga. Band membership is often dependent on the number of young people heading off to university. However there is always a group of dedicated people at Band practice on Monday nights, and always new people learning the ropes ( and tunes ) on Tuesday nights thanks to our awesome Tutors. The tartan worn by the band is the Campbell of Cawdor. City Of Rotorua Highland Pipe Band. Learner Night is moving to Monday. Wayne, Willy and the other star tutors will be there, as usual. Band practice still begins at 7pm BUT come early and run through some social tunes with our up and coming pipers and drummers. |

5/03/18 Preparations are well underway for Rotorua. Our visitors from Northern Ireland are coming to grips with the New Zealand weather and are glad they are suffering from sunburn rather than frost burn with the blizzards sweeping the UK currents. (our thoughts are with everyone there, stay safe and warm). The next few days will see our band at full strength before we take the trip down to Rotorua. The weather forecast fro the weekend is not good, fingers crossed. Good luck to all our fellow bands persons for the weekend. |

Auckland Police Pipe Band
Formed in 1945, Auckland Police Pipe Band is one of 2 police bands in New Zealand. (The New Zealand Police Pipe Band is our Wellington based grade 1 sister band)
The band is comprised of police and civilian members from around New Zealand. It performs at police and civic events and local community parades throughout the year. The band aims to encourage goodwill between the public and police, and to showcase top musical talent in piping and drumming. The band is renowned for its crowd pleasing displays, which usually incorporate some of the operational aspects of policing, including Police dogs, mock offenders, smoke bombs, police vehicles and road safety staff.
The band is a regular Grade 3 competitor on the domestic pipe band competition circuit.
The band wear the King George VI Tartan and are one of the few pipe bands in New Zealand to retain a full military #1 dress. This is generally reserved for military and Police events including the Anzac Day service and Military Tattoos but can also been seen on display in the Street March event at the NZ Pipe Band Championships.
